loft electrical wiring - loft conversion

I had a quick question.
In our 1906 Edwardian property, we plan on converting the loft into a bedroom-bathroom in the future. I'm talking about 5-10 years.

If I have rewiring down below on the first floor but the need access to the loft to run that wiring through there, should the wires be clipped to the joists or go through the joists (by drilling a hole through them?

I'm not sure what happens to any wiring running through the loft that are related to the lower floors during a loft conversion tbh. Do they need to be removed, or do they create a subfloor when doing the loft conversion?

As a general rule electrical cables in lofts should be pinned to the sides of joists but on occasion it may be necessary to pass the cable through a hole or series of such - when this is done though its wise to mark the top of the joist and perhaps fix a metal plate to stop some pillock driving a nail through the cable - and never over a joist unless it cannot possibly be avoided.

Typically the only cables in a loft would be associated be associated with the lighting circuits. The exceptions to this though may include cables to service any permanently fixed lighting or power supply sockets sited in the loft itself. Its unlikely but depending on the layout of the house and the location of the consumer unit you may find the power supply for any hot water cylinder heaters or showers sited on the upper floor may also have been routed through the loft space.
