Looks like Holkham's stopped trading in paint.

Many of us have used Holkham's linseed paint. I know they were only importing it from Allback in Sweden, but they were a useful source.

I googled them just now and there is no reference to them anymore - seems they have stopped trading. Let's just hope that others continue to sell it, there are other options available at the moment, it would be a right pain if it was stopped altogether in the UK.

It's been like that for about a year now. Linseed oil paint via Old House Store is branded Allback so I assume it is imported directly.

I thought Holkham were still in business but operating now under the Allback brand name but I now can't find them at all. However I can find people selling Holkham Linseed oil paint:

Given that the Greenshop page only shows 7 colours out of what was a far wider range, I'd presume they're using up old stock.

That's an interesting website. Has anyone else heard about using a 'UV curing lamp' to speed up the drying time of linseed oil paint? Re-coating within 2-3 hours would seem to solve one of the biggest issues with linseed paint . . . Is this too good to be true?

The MD of Histocolour has been really helpful in my restoration. He certainly seems to have done the research to back up the UV lamp approach. But, I have too many windows to make the lamp practical. They have some useful videos too.

I liked the lamp *right* up until I saw the price :shock:

If any kind PPUK'ers wish to purchase one, use it and then put it on Ebay - much as someone did with the putty lamp I've got - please do let me know :wink: :lol:

The putty lamp has been great by the way, I still have far too much use for it though, too many windows to restore

Ah. I hadn't noticed that and see what you mean. I could buy a lot of tea and kitkats while waiting for the paint to dry naturally for that money. On the other hand, think of the money saved flying to sunnier climes to get a tan :wink:

More seriously, if it allows a professional to apply two coats in one day without compromising the final result then it would soon pay for itself and might even encourage more people to specify linseed paint, which would be a good thing.

Mind you, a thought has just occurred to me that you can get UVA bulbs and tubes quite cheaply as they are used in vivariums to keep various reptiles healthy - and they can be used in standard light fittings. Might be worth a try.........

I bought one of those special bulbs for the vivarium for our tortoise when the dog savaged her and she wasn't allowed to hibernate.

The bulb was £50. Fortunately I had the bits to build my own holder/carrier for it.
