We have a 200 year old farmhouse which we are rennovating before moving in, the house is left empty for 6 weeks or so in between bouts of enthusiastic decorating. Someone suggested that we coat the exposed oak beams with linseed oil. Apart from woodworm treatment the beams were otherwise untouched. Since we did this we have noticed that some of them are producing a greenish-blue mould, which is relatively easy to remove as it is superficial, but obviously it is not something we want to do regularly.
I have thought of using a fungicide and then putting liquid wax on to prevent it recurring. If anyone has any thoughts as to treatment they would be much appreciated.
