Moving into a period property

Hello,

I am about to exchange on a lovely 1830s property that was a vicarage.

I was wondering when moving in is there anything I should be aware of in terms of doing right away?

It's an stone property, i am well aware that older properties require more due diligence with things like humidity which left unchecked can lead to damp and all the headaches with breathable walls.

But am sure theres more to it than that.

Personally the first thing I do is get an electrical inspection done and a gas safety inspection done, when buying a house you can get these done at the same time as a survey, i.e before completion.

Then I’d look at plumbing and drainage to make sure all the water is coming in and going away properly.

The rest will depend entirely on the condition of the property and what you want to do with it

that sounds sensible thanks.

i did notice some damp in the pantry on one wall, went to the otherside and its completely covered in shrubbery so seems like a simple enough fix.

the property itself is in good condition and completely liveable. its been housing a family for the last 30 years and now the empty nesters are downsizing
