Hi All,
I first posted a few weeks back with some roof leak/gutter issues we had when moving in, and have only just got around to getting some pics together and saying hello
We moved in last month and it's our first period house/long term project. In the first week, we had a gas leak, rain trickling through the bedroom ceiling, and to top it off the cat broke it's leg! It turned out that the gutter at the bay window was full to the brim with moss, but the previous owners thought that stuffing blankets in the loft and repainting the ceiling was a better solution than checking the roof!
We think it was built somewhere between 1889 and 1900, we found an old photo of it below that we're told was taken in 1900. It was first built/owned by a musician who became the first Musical Director at Blackpool Tower. He bought some farmland in 1888 and cleared it to build the pair of houses. It stayed in the same family until sometime in the 1970's, by the late 90's it was apparently bit of a neglected wreck inside and out, with the upper bay leaning outwards are the top (roof spread?) , a builder then bought it and rebuilt the , bay and 'refurbished' it throughout - unfortunately with lots of Gypsum plasterboard inside! (although some original lath ceilings/walls do remain) All the downstairs fireplaces went too, along with it's original windows. Mr Builder then chopped up the large garden and built another house on it, then sold both houses. The last owners lived here for about 10 years, and were very proud to say they had not done any maintenance at all! although they did put in some plastic windows & porch at the front  so on to us, the poor house will now get the tlc it deserves. It was great finding out about its early history whilst going through the long and drawn out purchase process.

As the weather has been dry the last couple of weeks, we've been busy repairing and repainting the timber windows at the back of the house, even though they are less than 15 years old they have a fair bit of rot. We also had a roofer here to do a few repairs to slates/flashings etc.

I will post some more pics tomorrow
