I am about to move into our first period renovation and have LOADS of questions!
Before we make any decisions on what to do to it we are going to live in the house and see how we find it and what makes sense to change first etc.
The building is an 1820s cottage that was two, knocked into one. All the ceilings and walls are wallpapered a combination of scary psychedelic fairies in one bedroom and pink woodchip in the sitting room, it's quite a look! So I would like for the period in which we just live in it and plan our next move to paint the whole place out white just so that it feels clean and fresh. It is very much not either of those things right now!!!
Can I use normal emulsion to paint over the wallpapered walls and ceilings for now? With my main aim to strip all walls and re-lime plaster and then use chalk based paint to decorate.
I have read lots about the house needing to breathe but not sure if the many layers of wallpaper and existing paint make that issue void until I remove them all at a later date.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chloe
