Looking for some advice on how to repair (though it won’t really be a repair, I know) this corner of an old chimney breast. There have been salts and bubbling for years along with a very rusty angle bead.
I’ve had some repairs done to the top of the chimney and also removed some of the cement render outside, hoping that will reduce external water ingress if there was any. Curiosity got the better of me so I cut away this edge to see what was underneath. It looks like it’s been tanked into oblivion, many times. You can kind of see different layers, including something that has the telltale cracking of lead paint.
This wall goes behind some kitchen cabinets, so while the ideal thing would be to remove the lot, that’s a huge job and really something that should be done if the kitchen is replaced which isn't currently on the cards. At this point I just need some way of bringing it together and stopping the dust from coming off.
Prior to actually removing anything I was thinking I would find masonry so could just let it dry for a bit and then just lime washing over it. Is limewash still an option? It’s a real mess of different coverings. I’ve got an as yet never opened tub of lime putty - maybe some sort of rudimentary filler from that?
