Aerosol brake or carburettor cleaner - available from any auto parts shop - shifts the vast majority of marks on pretty much anything I find, with a bit of elbow grease. It's a fairly volatile organic solvent of some kind, so I would really only use it if what you've got there is plain uncoated glass.

If it's got any kind of coating on it - or you're in doubt - speak to the supplier first!!

I've just spoken to our supplier and their comment was to leave it to weather for a while. It should fade.

I have used a microfiber cloth impregnated with lens cleaner to remove marks that looked similar to that from sunglasses with good results.

Brother inlaw has compared it to a petrol station. I'm waiting for the bus shelter comment...

no offence intended, it was just that the exposed rafter ends reminded me of those rather elegant Victorian railway station canopies. I realise they won't be visible in the finished works.

Unless we decide we don't like them (which is unlikely) the exposed ends are going to stay as they are. The glass will be set back about a metre, on the top of the block work leaving us a veranda.

I agree it looks good, but in the stunning, floodlit, night shot, I reckoned it needed a manger and nativity scene!

I love the idea of a decent overhang to the roof! I have never understood why we don't provide more external covered space in our perpetually wet climate, it is so useful in many ways.

The Swiss/Austrians/Bavarians seem to have got the message. Yes, they have more snow to deal with than we do but a substantial roof overhang seems so sensible for all manner of reasons for any building subject to wet weather.

The glass is now in!

We are now water tight if not quite air tight.

Once the door and stud work are removed you will be able to see the amount of light we will have downstairs.

Outside of the new extension is almost done.

It needs some paint and there are a few odds and ends but construction is basically done on the outside.

Inside, has progressed as well.

The walls/ceiling have been rendered/plastered and the floor insulation is in. We now need to get the underfloor pipes in, screed and then lay the slate.

The roof on the old extension has been removed

and is in better shape then we had thought. Lots of layers of felt and some very crumbly chip board but the joist were basically ok.

There was a bit of rot in a few places but easily enough dealt with.

We have added insulation to the outside of the old extension as it was solid block construction and rather cold. This will hopefully be basecoat render next week then left for a couple of weeks before the top thincoat is added. A thick layer of insulation and new felt on the roof after that and job will be done... Well apart from all the other things that need doing..

60mm Kingspan K5 with K-rend HP14 basecoat + Silicone TC15 on top all held together with plastic mesh. If the temperature stays ok then the basecoat will be going on tomorrow. All very unbreathable (though the basecoat is made of lime) but then its going onto block.

I hope I'm not the breathable-insulation police! I'm just interested to know what you chose. I too have blockwork to render very soon, but want to use the same lime-based through-coloured top coat as I used on the upper storey, so am looking into suitable base-coats. Thinking of St Astier's "Hourdex" - anybody heard of it? Might start a new thread......

Underfloor heating pipes are now in.

A tighter spacing (100mm) than normal as we need a bit of extra heat into this area due to the amount of glass and the low temperature of operation of the heat pump.
