Depressingly that must be one of the few nice houses in haverhill.. alot of its rather 1960's and concrete... doesn't look in that scary a state, if i were in the market for a new place I'd even consider moving back to haverhill to take it on.... maybe he's hoping someone'll jump in to buy it to save it..

Popular here to move nicer old homes to a new place. The examples in the websites are a bit too large I suppose. Also there is not profit in it for the owner since the moving costs run so high the building itself is basically given away. Although demolitions aren't cheap either. Another expedient option is to burn it down, which gives the local firefighters a chance to train for house fires.

We don't have anything as old as you folks though. My town is about 150 years old and the fancy houses didn't get built early on. We have maybe half a dozen older than 100 years and only a few of those are in good shape. One is a museum. (silly link for the house, but the museum doesn't even have a website.)

On the plus side there are those out to save them...

As much as it is upsetting to see an old house demolished for no good reason - at least component parts can be salvaged for reuse to repair and restore other properties.

Setting fire to a house - even with the 'noble' (erm???) aim of training firemen, is surely nothing short of wanton destruction.

Now that really has got my rile up. I don't know whether you know Iffley Village, but it's one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Oxford. Why the hell didn't they list this house in the first place, and why can't it be rapidly listed now?
