Hi,
Most of the original ceilings in our Edwardian house have already come down and have been (or will be) replaced with plasterboard. However, the ceiling in the hallway is still lathe and plaster. It has a nice cornice around it, and though it has a few small cracks, seems in good enough condition. We have had a considerable amount of work done in the last couple of years: extension, loft conversion, rewiring and internal walls removed downstairs, and some of the cracks have appeared during this time.
We are in the process of taking up the flooring in the room above. This will have heating pipes installed and a new floor laid (by new I mean reusing the best of the boards from the bedroom, combined with some recovered from the rest of the house), so it will become difficult to access the ceiling from above in the future. I have been wondering if it would be sensible to do something to reinforce it while we can.
One of our builders suggested liberal application of SBR on top of it. What do people think of this idea?
