I am decorating our lounge in our 1930s house.
It has a history of damp…we think it’s the driveway being built up too high….which we are addressing, but in the past they have tried to remedy this by doing the following;
Damp proof injections
Extractor fan, fitted quite low.
Replastered bottom part of wall with gypsum.
When stripping the wallpaper, I’ve noticed there is noticeable damp / mould in the gypsum plaster…nothing in the lime plaster at the top that I can see…which makes sense, as it’s the driveway causing the issue.
There’s a layer of paint under the wallpaper. Presumably modern paint at a guess 20+ years old..managed to chip some off, but want to remove it all, so I can use clay paint on the lime plaster so it can breathe.
What’s the best way to help remove it from gypsum and the original lime plaster at the top of the external wall, without damaging it? Are there any strippers I can use rather than scrapping / chipping it all off..?
