Render and exposing brickwork

Ideally we are wanting to expose brickwork underneath old rendering which is causing internal damp issues. We don’t know if it is doable to have the brick exposed (as we are inexperience), or if we should have lime rendering. What do you recommend we do in order for us to see if the state of the brickwork without piling the rendering off? Do we contact renderer or what do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Wait so you’ve already decided to remove the cement render to help resolve the internal damp issues, and you’re just deciding whether to leave the bricks exposed or re-render in lime once it’s gone?

In that case, why are you hesitant to just get on with knocking the render off (at which point the condition of the brickwork will be evident and you can decide to either repoint and leave exposed or re-render in lime)?

Knock the render off and then decide what to do, if the render pulls the face of the brick off then you need to re-render in lime.

Are you sure its the render thats causing the damp issues?
