We have a number of lime ash floors, none if which are in a good state (cracks, surface wear and poor repairs) and are likely to need some attention in due course... From what I understand, if the floor needs to be relaid, there is no commercial source of aggregate (lime kiln ash in our case) for making a new floor. Our conservation officer suggested that the solid floor material could be crushed and recycled... This does not sound like an enjoyable activity on a number of levels and I wonder if anyone here has any experience with this type of floor or how you go about getting concrete crushed.
I suspect that I will try to reduce the wear and tear on these floors as much as I can by covering with ply and carpeting to keep them going.
Thanks,
Matt
