Hi all,
I smashed out my old bog last week which left a bit of a void in the wall. I've got my knickers in a twist however as to how to patch it up!
My house has very little to zero footings (built on clay and chalk mostly). I decided to construct a base with a concrete pad on top, (yeah I know but its only the corner the house). Those bricks you see on the pad are essentially foundation level, the next course above will be the base or the beginning of the wall and above ground.
My thoughts are to use a more modern brick and concrete pointing for this initial course (as seen in the photo) and then proceed with lime and 'soft reds' for the course above. My question is does anyone feel I ought to use 'soft reds' and lime for both courses? The base course will essentially be underground or covered and likely permanently wet (although I plan to try and eliminate rainfall in this corner). Is there any point, or benefit I should say, in using porous brick and lime under ground?
Cheers. Paul
