Hi
I’m renovating an Edwardian house in north west (isle of Man). It Still has original Westmorland slate roof and has had many obvious repairs over the years.
I’m struggling to decide best course of action.
A) to reroof and reuse as many of the original slates as possible, or
B) repair and patch where necessary.
I’m worried a significant portion of the original slates will be lost if removed and the cost of replacing will break our budget. Alternatively If we don’t replace in full will we end up paying more in repairs over time? replacing entire roof gives us a chance to fit breathable fabric under slates, but is very expensive.
Has anyone wrestled with this dilemma and what did you decide? Any advice?
Thanks.
