I recently discovered that the fireplace in my new house was slate that had been painted over with about 12 layers of paint. About 200 hours and 5 tins of Nitromors later, I've finnished stripping the bugger (subject to a couple of specs here and there),
The only thing is it looks pretty dull and greyand there's a few scratches (which are possibly caused by my scraping).
I've searched the forum for advice on bringing it up to nice shiney finnish with hopefully a more uniform and darker colour.
I've searched the forums and found some advice about using boiled linseed oil. Someone else also suggested Dansih Oil. Does anyone have any tips for:-
1) preparing the fireplace before applying the oil (or any other product)
2) what product I should (one of the oils mentioned or another type of product)
3) How I should apply the oil/prouct and get the best results.
Have spent ages stripping it and don't want to make a pig's ear of it now.
Your help would be vry much appreciated.
