The minster school in southwell has been demolished and there is a roman villa/burials/bath house we hope to investigate before it is built over.Liked the graffiti on the fencing arround the site!

Oooh! And almost in my back yard. Please keep me informed about this facinating roman excavation and any finds. Spent my last birthday in Bath trawling round the roman bits and we have lots of finds here around tillbridge lane, Marton etc. Just discovered we have a roman pottery site on our farm . Lindsey.

SCAG,(southwell comunity archaeology group) has been formed to protect this site and has so far managed to prevent pp being granted.There has been the discovery of a huge wall and several burials,but the site remains the property of the developers and as yet there is no funding for archaeology although it is hoped the site could be purchased by the council.When the minster school was on the site bones used to be found by pupils and one family used to have a skull on their mantlepiece for many years which they have now donated to the museum.There is a mosaic floor visible through a glass panel in the pews of the minster together with lots of painted wall plaster. phil.
