Sash and Case Window Query

Hi, I am having new sash and case windows fitted next week and the joiner is asking what colour of seal do I want between the glazed units. The windows are wood on the inside, painted white on the outside and I'm having brass catches etc.

Can you give me your opinion what looks best for the seal (if thats what its called). Brass or he's offered black also??

Hello Dianne. When you talk of the seal between the glazed units, I'm imagining the "spacer" that sits between the inner and outer panes of glass in sealed unit double-glazing. Is that right?

If so, then - first and foremost - I think the colour should be whatever you prefer. It's your house and you have to live with the choice.

But if it were mine, I think I would find the brass colour a bit too shouty. I feel it's better if such things fade into the background as much as possible - particularly if they're a modern introduction into a period property.

So I think I'd choose black.

Ask for 'Thermix' spacer bars, which are a very pale grey (almost white) and (this is important) have very fine perforations which are almost invisible at first glance. They look so much better than any of the other spacer bars I've seen in d.g. units. Any good maker of sealed units should be able to provide these from stock.
