For what it's worth. Our house is cement rendered. The front looked terrible - the cement was bulging off in parts, cracks, there was an area where it looked like it had been blasted on. We applied to have it changed. I thought this would be granted but heritage told us that sometimes removing render might damage the structures and they faffed and wanted to know exactky what was underneath ...
Anyway, we had it granted and did front and sides. Given the state of the render I was expecting the worst but other than a bit of sole plate that needed replacing, there was zero damage. The lime plasterer (a very knowledgeable builder from the area) said that as long as the other render looked OK it would be fine to leave it alone for now.
