Some sad news of an old timer

Some of our long term members may remember Doug aka DJH? of this parish as they say. Anyways I was in Ireland and happened to wonder about him as I remember he did a lot of important lead work restoration. Sadly it seems he passed away just over a year ago. Oh! Lovely DJH, whose favourite game on here was posting a picture and having us all guess what it was. His "Wotsit" threads. He was so knowledgeable and amusing. I bet his donkeys miss him.

Interesting. If it's in the road how do they stop non-users parking on top of it? Our local town is full of cars ignoring yellow lines, wheels up on pavements, etc. If this device is designed to be so inconspicuous then even conscientious drivers could surely innocently not even notice one.

I remember that too, and one of us would always ask if it was something to do with cheese making. We visited Kilkenny Castle today and I was noticing the wonderful lead hoppers and later thought I should check out if I could find which places Doug worked on and found the news, made me really sad.

Really sad to hear that, he was an incredible craftsmen, and great contributor on here as well

Yes, very sad. I was always in awe of his craftsmanship. Thankfully, being in lead, his legacy will live on for many years to come. His donkeys will miss him because he loved them and donkeys can form a very strong bond with humans.

That's very sad news indeed. I had many email discussions with Doug during which he imparted much valuable practical advice to help me with various leadwork repairs to my house. We also shared an interest in old tractors via another forum and again he was always helpful as well as entertaining. RIP Doug.

Ahh - that's sad news. A proper old boy craftsman and a lovely bloke, I think when it came to leadwork you would not find anyone as knowledgeable or passionate as Doug. He helped me out with advice here on my - incredibly modest compared to what he was used to - leadwork needs, and put me onto a fantastic leadworker who just as Doug promised did an excellent job, though I did have a daily grilling from Doug on every technical detail of what this chap was doing!

RIP Doug, they quite literally don't make them like they used to.
