Hello!
I have been looking at our top floor and speaking to a few stonemasons who suggest starting at the top, as that involves some scaffolding, and then look at the ground floor later. One mason has identified these stones as highest priority - one lintel and four jambs. I'm triple checking but the best quote seems to be full stone replacement (not lithomex), repointing loose joints and de-scaling loose bits etc. I've asked him - are there any other stones you think need doing urgently, and the best quoting stonemason says no, these are the ones that need attention now. Stonemasonary is completely new to me, never had a property with this trade requirement before. This building is B/ 2 listed, so I'm triple checking all traditional materials and approach.
Any observations or thoughts from those who might know more about such matters? Do these stones look like a good place to start, and hopefully not need to return to the top floor for a good number of years? Any good questions I should be asking? The quote for 1 lintel, 4 jambs is around £4750 + VAT.
