also , can i just add to the list of grumps , having another kidney stone two weeks after having kidney stones?i feel the unmistakable twinge in my kidney stone regions and now await the onslaught of pain accompanied by trips to A+E , no sleep ,getting no work done and learning a few swear words that i never knew existed.
If it is just a twinge can i also add to the list of grumps having a twinge that feels everything like the run up to passing a kidney stone or stones shortly after being in severe pain for 4 days passing kidney stones but is really just a twinge?
Given your recent history Rob, I would call the doctor right away if you're experiencing more twinges - there might some pre-emptive treatment they can offer.
You have my sympathy Joce, after discovering a burglary at my parents, and distubing a burglar at our house - who jumped out of a first floor window to escape, I know how you must be feeling. We installed an alarm after the event. I don't want to frighten you but make sure you take extra precaution if you are going out, these sort of scum may return and do more damage. Take Care.
Joce - really sorry to hear that. Have been walking around outside here thinking about it. Fotrunately we've never been burgled, although someone once broke into my car.
I think as we discussed on here before, if your house is remote and unoccupied at times, there's not a lot you can do to prevent a determined break-in; and the more you put locks and physical security on, the more damage is done by the scum as they gain entry.
We have security marked anything worth a few quid; padlocked away tools and the like. Outside we have geese and a covert camera on the drive (on the basis that they'd need a car and at least we could at least hand a number plate to the police). I keep meaning to get one of those "pic of ferocious dog lives here" signs for the gate at the end of the drive.
Being careful what is posted on public sites is also prudent.
So sorry to hear your news Joce, personal safety is important, dont get involved, somewhere safe to put portable valueables,a safe would be ideal but a strong lockable cupboard would do.keep car keys out of sight,Ordinary burgler alarms are only any good if the noise can annoy neighbours and even then most folks ignore them, but most important DO NOT LET THIS SPOIL YOUR ENJOYMENT OF YOUR HOUSE.phil and julie.
You are all so kind. He (I think just one person) made off with smallish stuff so I think would have been able to carry it ok. I think they came on foot, and I think they know me, and saw I was out.
I agree with you Robin, what can be done to really stop it?
The police woman advised I get an alarm system that links directly to the police station.
Anyone know a good period joiner in lincs who can cut and fit 200 year old glass?
Thanks Nigel. There are locks on all the windows but they just forced it apart.
At least the burglar has no taste at all and took things that don't matter that much - though the total value amounts to around 3 grand, and then the cost of all the repairs. Still, it could have been so much worse.
I don't want to frighten you but make sure you take extra precaution if you are going out, these sort of scum may return and do more damage. Take Care.
So what do you suggest she does tonight and tomorrow now you have said this might happen? And why say it if you don't want to frighten her?
Joce, they won't come back at all. They know everyone will be being super vigilant. Was the gate on the lane padlocked?
Biff is your man!
ROB!! Another kidney stone! I am scared now for me and for you if you are going through that pain again. I read last week that if you have one you are much more likely to have more.
Be VERY careful now, in case they come back for more items.
It is just possible you maybe being watched, and have any neighbours been burgled?
Ask your attendant Police officer about the following:
Local Ringmaster registration for e mail reports circulating info about thefts and suspicious people to be aware of.
SmartWater security marking for all items of value
Do you have a local Safer Neighbourhood team and have you been given proper Police support , advice and feedback.
If anybody wants to know more about the above please PM me for further information, most Police forces are now operating this service and still people are unaware of them.
I didn't know about the security marking so thanks to Robin and Joss for that. Lots of great suggestions there Joss, yes, I'm part of the whole Neighborhood Watch thing and am notified about suspicious behaviour. I'm notified all the time as there is an overwhelming amount of suspicious behaviour here, so you tend to ignore the emails a bit. I'm very supported by the PCOS, police come here every day.
'Marm, the gate was open as I'm expecting deliveries. But I think this person was on foot. Funny how they nipped in during the brief period between the window cleaner leaving and my return. I think someone was watching.
Joce, I am so glad that you are being properly supported, and that you are part of the Neighbourhood watch, which is different from the police intiative, Safer Neighbourhood team stuff.
It is interesting that you say about the windows---
Ringmaster is very useful, we also have the Business Ringmaster here as I am involved with the Chamber of Trade and there have been some particularly unpleasant incidents here over the past 3 weeks, mainly distraction stuff, all linked , SNT have passed it to intelligence and are getting a good grip.
Obviously if somebody is hell bent on getting in for easy pickings there's not much you can do, but probably this is a one off, so culprit gets caught and it'll be sorted.
Oh, Joce, how terrible! Poor you (and Chris of course)! Obviously the damage and loss of belongings is rotten, but I do hope you don't feel too sullied by the event.
I suppose the only thing you can tell yourself is that the b@ast@rds may have got a few of your belongings, but they haven't got that most precious thing - your home.
You're right Mr P, they take nothing of real value when they take a few things - and after chatting with a few people who have experienced far, far worse I feel we escaped pretty lightly all things considered.
A quick drive round town has just put it all in perspective, the population is chiefly impoverished, sickly, downtrodden. Burglary is the penance the privileged must suffer.
