The photo attached is of 5x7" pine (Alpine chalet) rafters which are long and intended to be exposed, can anyone suggest a visually ok repair to two with damaged ends to avoid the hassle of replacement? To my eye bolts would look fine, also metal plates, if done sympathetically or the use of glue etc. I have a background in heavy timber frame design but not the less well understood art of fixing repair quandaries. A reference to published articles or book would be great or if anyone out there has a solution in mind, the actual spec and rough dimensions of any mechanically fixed lap or flitch plate repair joint would be appreciated.
