Without knowing what grade you previously used it's hard to say. Best I can suggest is you try at least one grade step below the last one you used on those boards. Monitor the performance of that grades use to verify it is aggressive/fine enough for your aims.

Thank you both! I’ll try this out then and the water trick. Thank fully this is the only room thd previous owners wrecked with respect to the floorboards. Hopefully I can fix this

Hi all, after starting and stopping the floor sanding, Xmas hols, we are now finally a few floorboards away from finishing before applying Osmo oil. We aim to finish the sanding tomorrow morning and then put the oil on after a good hoover and wipe down of any remaining dust.

Btw we went with 80 grit and then 120. It’s mostly helped with the scratches, but the bored out bits are deeper. We’ve accepted this imperfection… at least it’s part of the houses’s story.

. @Lacan07 the Festool orbital 150 is amazing and the dust extractor was worth it! Two boards took about 10 mins ( about 10metres total). I think it saved us a lot of time. The control felt better too and gave us confidence in using it.

Ok, the reason for my post: I am wondering if anyone has any experience using Osmo clear vs Osmo raw?

I am going for as minimal as possible colour change and would like to prevent any yellowing/orange over the years.

I think we would be happy with the natural pine wood colour or lighter (just not a bleached or blonde look though ). We are avoiding stains because we will mess it up (we can’t even paint right!)

I've used both here. The clear produces a high gloss that highlights the knots and imperfections and gives depth to the woods natural colours. The raw does what is says on the tin, as near as dammit it puts a near invisible coating on the wood with little change of the base colours while knots and divots remain obvious but not amplified by a reflective gloss.

Also, I'm hunting down the tray-roller set. I know you used a paintbrush to apply it is it worth getting Osmo’s roller set by any chance? I'm also not sure how to clean/maintenance it after use too.

I'm not one for high gloss finishes except on furniture and the Osmo Matt does much the same as the Gloss in terms of highlighting the natural colours of the wood and produces a very light sheen to the finish that does not reflect much light. I used here in our lounge and study/library to good effect. I do have one issue with both the Matt and the Gloss versions though in high foot traffic and resting areas - like here under my desk and beside lounge chairs - the sheen/gloss can be worn away (as almost any finish would ultimately) by the foot-shuffling that goes on in such places. Rugs are essential.

I wouldn't worry about rollers - they are wasteful in my opinion - a few good soft and fine bristled brushes will serve you better.

I've never tried the Quick Drying product as 10-12 hours foot-free was easily achievable - I always planned the jobs here to end in the evenings so I could shut the doors and leave the room overnight. If though your house layout does not allow you to avoid the rooms concerned for that length of time then it may be a good idea.

Hi all, thank you all so much with your help with this project. The floors aren’t perfect because the burrowed bits were too deep.

We went for the clear matt osmo in the end. We used a soft bristle brush but my hand hurt after applying it lol.

This is the finish. We are happy with it given all the challenges. It’s a bit more orange than we would have liked but we think the previous owner used a stain.
