Window construction

Looking for some knowledge and pics if possible!
We're going to be building up an opening for a door in the external wall of the house. It will be built up to create a window.
I'm not really happy with what the architect has suggested - an outer later of stone (150mm) with a timber frame to the inside creating an insulated cavity wall.
The house is victorian, with solid random stone walls throughout.
My question is, how would this have been done? Does anybody have pics?

Your architect is probably trying to minimise cost through time and material. Do you have a source of matching stone? Nothing wrong in principle with infilling with timber stud and insulation IMO but don't leave an empty cavity because it won't be ventilated.

The window openings here have a single leaf of stonework below them so from the inside the room steps outwards into the window reveal. How thick are your walls and what shape are your other window openings?

That's kinda what I suspect, despite being told that originality was the priority...
The walls are probably about 750mm thick, maybe more. The other windows it should be getting matched to are recessed on the inside. To my mind it should just be solid stone, with battens and lath and plaster to finish the inside? But just wanted to check!

From a technical point it's not 100% correct, because a cavity wall has the cavity go down 225mm below DPC and floor level to allow any water that penetrates the outer skin to run down below. In theory, if if can't run down and escape, it could get to the inner skin above floor level.
If it was my house, I'd probably do the outer skin in stone, an inner skin in brick or block, and an infill in rubble, all done with lime mortar. Filling in below a window isn't a big job, so it probably does not make a lot of difference whatever method you use, although technically when building a wall you try and use the same materials throughout, so the expansion/contraction is roughly the same. You often get cracks forming where different materials have been used. Saying that, I'm talking about doing the inner skin in brickwork, so if it's all stone it should really be kept that way.
