Women tradespeople

It's mainly to do with men's egos. They like to think they are doing a man's job, so when a woman comes along and does the job they don't like it.
In some people it can bring out their nasty side.

I have refrained from adding my two-penneth on this topic for fear of going off on one and submitting a lengthy, even for me, rant.

Suffice it to say then, that in my opinion, the root of all prejudices and negative attitudes is fear compounded by ignorance and stupidity.

We can perhaps reduce the first with an effective attack on the second but we will never fix the last.

I'm not sure who said that first... (ah yes; Aristophanes the author of Lysistrata - the first femininist General and so apropos here)... but variants appear most frequently these days in response to the M?GA movements around the world.

I don't think the problem is whether tradesmen are men or women. It's a problem of competence and quality in general.

It's a decline in intelligence. It's been well documented, and no sector of society is unaffected.

Would women be any better? Well, you wouldn't have the catcalling or dirty jokes or extreme stupidity, but in my experience of women in the workplace, you won't get any more competence on average. Women naturally recoil from practical work anyway, with a few exceptions, so all these efforts to get women into STEM or trades will only go so far. Whenever you want some practical work done, chances are a man will turn up to do it, and chances are he won't be interested in anything but getting the job done quickly the way he knows how, getting paid, and getting out of there.

Excuse me @Liam , did you just say "Women naturally recoil from practical work"? What sort of patriarchal bullshit is that? Justifying unequal treatment of men and women in the construction industry by saying it's "natural?!" and that women don't like to do practical work? They recoil from it?!!!

And on a forum for people who, whatever their gender, are clearly up to their ears in practical work.....

I'll change my mind when I see at least a small percentage of women choose linework, plumbing, mechanics or carpentry instead of human resources, education, administration and healthcare. It might do the trades some good if they did, but human nature is what it is, and men and women are attracted by different types of work. Obviously this forum is proof that there are exceptions.

It appears we have definitive proof 31/ ATLAS is not simply an unusual comet but has beamed down at least one alien being. A human born of woman could not possibly think getting something the size of a watermelon down the passageway which normally accommodates not much more than a chipolata isn’t a nasty messy bit of ‘practical work’.

Not quite true. Take a look at the education systems used in our schools over the last 60 years or so and more. Most of these 'streamed' boys toward manual/technical roles and girls toward nursing, secretarial/administration and factory jobs where dexterity rather than brawn was required.
