Dr Newell's special recipe... I make all my own stains, I have Walnut crystals, analine dyes, spirit (LF) stains and pigment universal colours. I have traditional earth pigments but rarely use them anymore. What product are you using? I used Morrell's water based stain on my hallway recently and was very pleased by how easily it went on. They say two hours between coats but its touch dry in minutes. Funnily enough I still have 3 boards in the middle to do...
I can't decide what to put over it to seal it. Any suggestions? It could do with being a bit darker so something with a tint in it.
HiBeautiful finish, I hope we can achieve something similar. Can you elaborate on the method? Thanks.
Very nice, suits the off white walls. Very handy having gaps to finish to.Wont let me upload photos in DMs, v annoyong, only links.
Here is beauty of water staining, floor almost dry! And not finished staining!

Well, there will always be sanding marks somewhere. And lol at drum sanders.Very nice, suits the off white walls. Very handy having gaps to finish to.
More detail still emerging all the time on my floor, the downside of that is the occasional evidence of my sanding technique God knows how I would have faired if I'd have rented a drum sander
Mylands shellac floor barrier
Yes it will go darker and slightly warmer. If its a pure water dye, ie no latex binder, then you can use any solvent finish on it, oil, cellulose etc.Seems like we've been here before...
Staining a wooden floor
Ok now I know how I am going to proceed with my parquet floor are there any recommendations for staining. I would like to stain back to the original dark colour / dark mahogany. Does anyone have any products they would recommend? What’s the best way of protecting the floor? Wax? Thankswww.periodproperty.co.uk
Ok so shellac barrier next on the hall floor. Is it transparent or will it make the floor darker? I want it a wee bit darker to better match the big room.
Can I stop with shellac or do I still need a wax or something?
? Well. I have been here dozens of times before. Shame my articles have been removed. I should do new ones for a new 'finding out' section. All still available on my website btw, in great detail.Seems like we've been here before...
