The boards above are still nailed in after 500 or so years but there is some movement in themWell that's looking rather fabulous! Congratulations indeed. This is precisely why all those months of hard slog are eventually worthwhile. Any yes, of course we're interested in the fireplace!
Interesting 'noggins' between the ceiling joists. I've never seen anything like that before and am wondering why they are there. I'm assuming the floorboards above are all nailed/screwed down and therefore preventing the joists from moving, so I don't understand why those 'noggings' are required or what they are supposed to be doing.
