Thanks again for the tool recommendation. Do you think it would be worth getting the cordless one?

That's a question that I find a trifle triggering. So many power tool suppliers are attempting these days to 'lock in' their customer base using this approach and that, in a way, limits our choice. In principle therefore I would say No, and certainly not if I may wish to buy other tools in the future.

There are third parties now supplying adaptors that allow you to use Milwaukee batteries with DeWalt tools etc. Not all are of the highest quality so worth doing your research before trusting your shiny kit to it

Thanks.. I've gone with the plug in version. The 2 sills as shown. Would appreciate advice on painting the good one. The other needs a carpenter..
Linseed oil before paint?

Hopefully you can find a a good tradesman who will be happy to make those repairs - the key challenges will be to re-establish the cill without disturbing the inner metal frame AND to establish an effective weather seal beneath it to prevent future water ingress.

Regarding the other, less damaged, frame. Once you've removed the remaining paint from both the wooden frame and the steel inner frame - using a chemical stripper for this - then the wood can be given a coat of linseed if you choose but this should be left for a day or two before applying the undercoat. Don't forget to make the caulking good around the frame before painting.

A professional decorator told me that for weathered wood they would give it a coat of linseed oil mixed with paint no doubt thinned with white spirit - 'to stiffen things up'.

I use one of the clear (oily) exterior wood preservers - and for something 'a bit the worse for wear' the Bonda wood hardener over the top of it.
